Many professionals today feel like they are at a dead end in their career due to the last of
expertise or formal education and many are just waiting for that big break to happen.   
Degrees, proficiencies and even that big break can make a huge difference in your
career, but they are probably not what are holding back success.

    1)        Set priorities
    You should set your own personal priorities based on your company’s performance
    rating system.   Considered should be achievements valued by your company and
    your boss.  Setting personal priorities gives you the direction you need for
    continuous improvement.

    2)        Emphasize your marketability not your security
    Organizations take care of the most marketable individuals, those who are most
    valuable.  Joining networking groups in your workplace is a great way to get started
    marketing yourself.  Many of these groups offer networking opportunities with Senior
    Management and other influential individuals.

    3)        Take advantage of your company’s tuition reimbursement program
    Continuous learning is important to everyone and it is looked highly upon in
    corporate America.  Tuition reimbursement is a benefit that should be used to its
    maximum annually. Tuition reimbursement can be compared to 401k matching it’s
    like getting free money!  Why would anyone not take advantage of it!

    4)        Show a positive attitude
    No matter what the situation, whether stressed and under a deadline, or in new to a
    job, only show your a positive attitude.  When asked how things are going, your only
    response should be “fantastic”.  Let’s face it, the positive thinkers always win out
    over the negative thinkers who can’t accept change or handle stress gracefully.

    5)        Create a developmental action plan for yourself and your career
    Gaining a mentor who can provide an objective opinion is a great way to get this
    started.  Brainstorm realistic and actionable items that help you gain the experience
    and knowledge required to keep your career on the upward swing.  Assign a time
    frame to each action item and stick to it.
